Sorry for the lack of updates - ever since a Windows Update two weeks ago, I have not been able to get online. It disabled my ethernet adapter. I'm borrowing my friend's computer to post this. After fruitlessly trying to fix the problem myself, giving up and then contacting support, I have been bounced around from my ISP, to the adapter's manufacturer, to the computer's manufacturer, to Microsoft and back again.
After two weeks, no one has given me any real help or solutions. So, I am just going to bite the bullet and reformat my hard drive. I just got an external hard drive to back up as much as I can. I hope this will fix the problem. If not, I don't know what I am going to do....and, I will have lost all my settings and preferences for nothing.
Anyway, wish me luck. If all goes according to plan, I should be able to do some updating tomorrow. The contest deadline will be extended, of course.

Sorry everyone, I know the contest was supposed to get started last week, things just got really hectic for a bit there. The Secret Lives of Elves Contest is now running, so get started on those entries!
Thanks to everyone for your input in the poll. It was interesting to read your opinions. I was expecting there to be a clear favorite, but since there seemed to be enthusiasm for all three ideas, maybe I'll use the other two later on.
Sorry two of the ideas fell into the "done to death" category, lol....I just imagined three drawings I might do, and based the themes on them. Guess I don't get around enough to know they weren't as original as I thought they were.

I have begun to remove the older deviations in the gallery...trying to get the total down to a more manageable number.
I must ask all members with ANY general questions to please send a note to the club instead of commenting on the journals. I prefer not to have this done on the journals, especially since the answer can usually be found by looking elsewhere. Thanks in advance.

Basic Contest Rules
You must be a member of *elves to enter. Only one entry per member per contest. Unless otherwise stated in the contest discription, you CAN NOT use old work or submit works done by others or that you have done with others. Voting is done one week after contest close through a poll vote. Each member gets one vote each per contest. If you have multiple accounts, please do not vote more than once. You can not submit lineart/unfinished art for a contest entry to the club gallery. Once submitted, your entry CAN NOT be altered in anyway. Major contests will have two options, drawing and writing. The voting for these two will be done seprately and there will be a winner for both. Note: This can only be done when there are three or more writing entries. The one entry per member rule still applies to the major contest, you can only do one of the options.Good luck and have fun!
~The Secret Lives of Elves~Art option:
The theme for this contest is elves caught off guard. What do you imagine elves do at home when they're all alone and no one is there to see what they're up to? The more "out of character" and unexpected, the better. Play paparazzi and draw those elves doing things they wouldn't necessarily want their elfy friends to know about. Photo manipulations will also be accepted.
Writing option:
Same theme - just write an original story depicting elven characters "In flagrante delicto", as it were.
The entry deadline is April 27, 2008.
Please send a note with "Contest Submission" as the subject with the link and title for your entry.
The winner will be honored in the journal, have their entry added to the gallery and recieve a 1 year subscription to DA.
The prize for second place is a 6 month subscription.
The prize for third place is a 3 month subscription.

It's contest time again! I've had three ideas mulling around in my head, so I decided to leave it up to you members to decide. Here are the choices:
Elves vs. Technology - Known for being in tune with nature, how do you think an elf would deal with modern technology?
Elves & Beasts - Depict an elf interacting in some way with one or more animals.
The Secret Lives of Elves - What do you imagine elves do at home when they're all alone and no one is there to see what they're up to?
Go vote in the poll!!! I'll leave it up for a week, and then we'll launch the contest next weekend.

Elves on DA - Submission Guidelines
Journal Entry: Sun Mar 2, 2008, 8:57 AMOnce you are a confirmed member of the group, you may start sending in your submissions. In order for your work to be submitted to Elves on DA you -must- send a DevNote to the group with a link to your deviation (just copy/paste the URL into the note and DA will make the link for you) as well as the title.
Sending notes All devnotes MUST BE CLEARLY LABELLED UNDER THEIR APPROPRIATE HEADINGS. The subject line of the note should read as follows:
Gallery Submission (plus the month) - Example:
For uploads to the image galleryLink submission (plus the month) - Example:
For link entries in the Art List journalWrite the month you would like your deviation(s) added. If you would like your art submission to appear for the month of August please write "Gallery Submission August". If, however, you are submitting it at the end of August and you would like to it appear for the September Submissions then please write "Gallery Submission September".
If you do not specify a month then it will be added wherever is convenient when gallery updates are done. If you do not specify whether you want it in the gallery or The Art List, your submission will only be added to The Art List. All gallery submissions are also added to The Art List along with link submissions.
Elves themed, inspired or related works only please. This is an Elves themed club so works are expected to at least hint at things "Elvish" and elf-like characters. This includes: Tolkien, dark/drow, forest, winged, vampiric, elemental, made up, Elfquest, even santas elves and any other you can think of!
. If we can't see those tell-tale ears in your artwork, please be sure to include something in your description mentioning the elven nature of the character. We follow all DA policies and will refuse to post any copyrighted images or work that is not your own in our gallery.This club is rated G, so please do not submit any artwork containing depictions of sexual acts and/or situations. Artistic nudity is allowed, but will have the "Mature Content" label placed on it when added to the gallery.
Contest entries will not be added to the gallery or the Art List - with the exception of the winning entry. If you submit a contest picture and it wins, it will be saved from your DA account and uploaded (with full credit of course) to our gallery. The winning entry will be featured on our main page until the next contest winner is selected. However, it will not be added to the Art List, since contest entries are seperate from regular submissions.
Non-contest/project pictures will be added to the club gallery by request only. Your work will be saved in order to upload it to our gallery. We cannot support png files, so please submit gif and jpg files only. By default, all submissions to our gallery will have comments disabled. Each submission will include a description (the one you provide on your deviation), a link to your gallery and a link to the deviation in your gallery. We will only post the small version of your deviation and include a statement that visitors should follow the link in order to fullview, comment on and fave your deviation.
If your description is in any other language than english, please provide an english translation for it. You can either send it in the note when you submit your deviation, or you can add it on your deviation. We will have to have the translation before your deviation can be added to the gallery.
At the moment, there is no maximum number of submissions per month, so submit away! However, please limit each gallery submission to no more than 3 deviations each. We want to give equal exposure to all of our members. Please be patient if your submission is not added to the gallery right away. We will try to get it in as soon as possible. You will receive a reply from us when your submission has been added to the gallery. Once you receive our note, then you may send in another submission. Please send in your best possible work, no unfinished pieces or scraps!
If you move, alter or remove any of the original deviations that you have submitted to our gallery, please be sure to send us a note so we can make the necessary changes to our gallery.
Sorry guys, but we won't accept any submissions that are given in ANY way except notes. We simply don't have the time to sift through the comments on the front page or in the journals to find what you might post there.

Just a reminder that I am going to start cleaning out some of the older artwork in the gallery (probably starting next weekend). Excluding contest winners, devIDs, and a few standout pieces here and there, I will eventually scale back the gallery to include only submissions from the past year. Then, as each month passes, I will delete another month's worth of deviations.
So, go ahead and have a last look at those old gems in the gallery.
